Instagram has launched its fourth app. It’s called Boomerang and is designed for extremely short ‘films’.
Simply create short movies with Boomerang
Boomerang is now available for immediate download in the App Store. The app is extremely simple. You choose the front or back camera and you press the shutter button. The app then very quickly captures a series of photos, which it then places back together as a movie of up to one second.
The movie is playing from front to back and then from back to front. That repeats itself constantly, so you have an extremely short video played continuously in a loop. Like it’s some kind of gif.
After recording, you can, of course, share it directly on Instagram and Facebook. Through a separate share button, you can also share your creation through other social networks, like Twitter or Telegram. It is also possible to send messages via Boomerang or your Mail app.
Instagram now has four apps, including Instagram itself. The photo service also remains the main app, given that everything comes together on that platform. In addition to Instagram, you can make collages with Layout. This allows you to crop photos and put next to or under each other – and then upload it to Instagram.
Furthermore Instagram now also has two video apps. Besides Boomerang there is HyperLapse, the app that lets you record videos for a long time, and then let them playback. That gives a great effect, for example, the effect you know from the introduction of House of Cards. Boomerang does exactly the opposite: very short ‘film’, a kind of gif. And gifs are still missing on Instagram.
Boomerang is a free download in the App Store. For the installation, you need at least iOS 7 necessary and 12,2MB of free storage space.
