The Windows Phone Store is a service from Microsoft that allows users to search and download mobile apps for the Windows Phone operating system. The apps are made by independent development studios. The first version was released on October 21, 2010.
The user can search for many categories and titles, so-called feature items, and get details on ratings, reviews, screenshots and information about the price.
The Windows Phone Marketplace is launched simultaneously with Windows Phone in October 2010 in a few countries. On October 4, 2010 Microsoft announced that the Windows Phone SDK was downloaded more than half a million times. On December 16, 2013 Microsoft announced that there were more then 200,000 apps in the Windows Phone Store.
Prices and options
Windows Phone Store supports credit card payments, telephone billing and advertising-supported content. The Marketplace also offers a “try-before-you-buy” (try-before-you-buy) option, where the user has the option to download a commercial app before buying it. The Windows Phone Store is divided into main categories and subcategories. Apps can be placed only on one category.
Developers must pay an annual subscription of $99 to become an App Hub member and send apps to the Windows Phone Store. There is no limit to the number of free entries for paid apps. There is a limit of 100 free submissions for free apps.
Games and apps
A WP-user can download games and apps from the Windows Phone Store. Microsoft has released a wide range of popular games since the launch of Windows Phone.
