WinRAR will open and create archives in RAR, ZIP, and other formats. The latest version also supports the new compression algorithm RAR5.
What is WinRAR?
WinRAR compresses files so they take up less space on your hard drive and you can send the files easier. The program supports three compression formats: ZIP, RAR, and the new RAR5. This format provides better compression ratio.
It is also possible to protect a compressed file with a password. With this program, you also make self-extracting files and there are enhanced features to repair damaged archives.
For extracting files, 15 different formats are supported: RAR, ZIP, 7-Zip, ACE, ARJ, BZ2, CAB, gzip, ISO, JAR, LHZ, TAR, UUE, Z, and XZ.
The options are extensive: you can configure every aspect of the program. Perfect for the demanding user, but the less experienced user might find it confusing.
Open and create compressed files
WinRAR’s main features are easily accessible via the top bar of the interface: Wizard, Virus Scan, and adding / deleting files and self-extracting archives.
To open a compressed file, right-click the archive, click Extract File, and then choose the destination folder. From WinRAR do this easily by double-clicking.
To create a compressed file, click right and then choose New / WinRAR archives. Click on the file you want to compress and select Add to archive. Or create a self-extracting archive by choosing the self-extracting from WinRAR interface and click OK.
WinRAR integrates with Windows Explorer and does so with one click on the Start menu to compress and decompress.
The appearance of WinRAR, which is rather outdated, unfortunately, has not seen a makeover in this release.
All to compress and decompress
The major innovation is the introduction of the new compression RAR5. These files can only be opened but with WinRAR 5.0.
WinRAR is compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP and can be used with both 32- and 64-bit systems. The program offers a seamless integration with a variety of antivirus software and supports a variety of formats.
Unlike ZipGenius or 7-Zip, WinRAR is not free, but the program does have a lot more features and configuration options. In comparison with a competitor such as WinZip, WinRAR also offers better compression ratio and a higher speed.
Looking thus an effective program to compress, and decompress and do you want enhanced features, then WinRAR is by far the best choice.
